Slug Line
A screenplay page over your footage. FADE IN types at the top, a beat, then the slug line in caps — EXT. LEH–MANALI HIGHWAY — DAWN — a longer beat, then the action lines in sentence case, all in Courier with a block caret that blinks while it waits.

What it's for
A screenplay page over your footage. FADE IN types at the top, a beat, then the slug line in caps — EXT. LEH–MANALI HIGHWAY — DAWN — a longer beat, then the action lines in sentence case, all in Courier with a block caret that blinks while it waits.
Reach for it when
- Establishing shots at the top of a travel or documentary cut
- Scene changes in a series, where the slug line names the place and the time of day
- Any opener where you want the audience to read the shot as a scene, not a clip
How it plays
Courier Prime, because a screenplay is set in 12-point Courier and nothing else reads as one. The type is bare — no plate, no card — so it sits on the shot the way a page sits on a desk. The typing runs at reading speed and compresses only if the page would run past the timeline, so a short slug keeps its beats and a long action line still finishes before the cut. The caret takes your accent; nothing else on the page does.
Not the right pick when
A hook that needs to be read in the first second — this takes its time on purpose. Use the Frost Hook Title. For a deadpan “POV:” line, the Terminal Typewriter is the same mechanic in a different register.
The FILM family
FILM is the paperwork of a shoot as motion — the slate, the leader, the slug line, the credits, the grain. It is built for creators who shoot like filmmakers, and it is the one family where the typeface is the design rather than a slot: Bodoni for the credits, Bebas for the slate and the leader, Courier for the page. Nothing in it glows, leaks or flares; everything is colour with alpha, so what you see in the Studio is what lands on your timeline.
