Snap Cut

What it's for

The LUT reel, in 16:9. Your ungraded frame holds long enough for the eye to read it as flat, then up to six graded versions of the same shot cut in on the beat, each naming the look that made it. It ends on the payoff: the last grade, your pack, your handle.

How it plays

The long first hold is the whole template. A cut that arrives before the eye has read the flat frame throws the comparison away — the viewer sees two pretty shots instead of a before and an after — so slot one holds for more than twice a beat while every grade after it gets the same interval, which is what lets the cuts sit on music. The last look holds twice as long again, because that is where the name, the pack line and the handle have to be readable.

Not the right pick when

Reels, TikTok and Shorts, where a wide frame leaves dead space above and below. Use Snap Cut — Vertical, the same edit at 1080 by 1920.
