F-Log2 to Rec.709 LUT

F-Log2 is Fujifilm’s wider log profile on the X-H2, X-H2S, X-T5 and GFX bodies — noticeably more range than the original F-Log, and correspondingly flatter before it is decoded.

What a correct F-Log2 conversion does

The conversion inverts the F-Log2 curve and maps the recorded BT.2020 primaries down to Rec.709. Fujifilm shooters often want their film-simulation character back after grading; a vintage or warm look on top of a correct decode gets much closer than trying to rescue an under-converted image.

Both halves live inside the .cube you download, so the conversion cannot be forgotten, applied twice, or stacked in the wrong order — the three ways log grades usually go wrong.

The mistake to avoid

Applying an F-Log LUT to F-Log2 footage. They are different curves — F-Log2 holds more highlight range, and the older LUT clips it.

Grades authored for F-Log2

You bought the camera for the film simulations and lost them the moment you switched to F-Log2. These eight bake the full F-Log2 and F-Gamut conversion — curve and BT.2020 gamut, not just the curve — into a single .cube, and three of them put that character back on top of a decode that is actually correct.

Common questions

Why does my F-Log2 footage look grey and washed out?+

Because it has not been decoded yet. F-Log2 stores far more dynamic range than a normal picture profile by recording a flat, low-contrast signal — that is the point of it. A conversion to Rec.709 maps it back to an image meant to be looked at.

Do I need a separate conversion LUT and then a creative LUT?+

Not here. Pick F-Log2 as your footage type before you download and the F-Log2 → Rec.709 conversion is baked into the same .cube as the look, so it is one node in Resolve or one adjustment layer in Premiere.

Which cameras record F-Log2?+

Fujifilm X-H2/H2S, X-T5, GFX. If your camera records F-Log2, these conversions apply to it.

Which LUTs can I use with F-Log2?+

All 175 grades in the library can bake a F-Log2 conversion in — choose F-Log2 as the footage type before downloading and it is written into the .cube. The free conversions at https://ireelz.com/luts/free are authored for specific cameras, so use those if you shoot one of them.
