LUTs for CapCut

CapCut can load your own .cube files, with one significant catch: custom LUT import is a desktop feature. If you are editing on your phone, this is the workflow you are missing.

Once imported, a LUT can go on a single clip or on an adjustment layer covering the whole timeline — the second is how you keep a consistent grade across a cut without touching every clip.

How to add a LUT in CapCut

  1. 01

    Open the LUT panel

In CapCut desktop, go to the Adjustment panel and select LUT.

  2. 02

    Import your .cube files

Click Import, browse to the folder holding your .cube (or .3dl) files, select them — you can select several at once — and confirm. They stay in your LUT list for future projects.

  3. 03

    Apply it

Hover the LUT thumbnail and click the + to add it. To grade the whole timeline, add it as an adjustment layer and drag the right edge of the Adjustment track to cover your clips.

  4. 04

    Set the intensity

With the LUT selected, use the Intensity slider in the Adjustment ▸ LUT panel to set the strength, up to 100.

Custom .cube import is desktop-only. The mobile app has built-in filters but no way to load a LUT file you downloaded, so grab the files on a computer.

Dialling the look back in CapCut

CapCut desktop does have an Intensity slider, so you can ease a look back. What it cannot do is ease the look without also easing the log conversion underneath it — that is a limitation of every editor-side mix, not of CapCut. Picking your strength before download sidesteps it.

Set 50, 70 or 100% in the LUT Library preview and the .cube is regenerated at that strength — the file itself is the lighter grade, so it lands identically wherever you load it.

Common questions

What LUT format does CapCut use?+

Standard 3D .cube files. Every one of the 175 grades in the iReelz library exports as .cube, so they load in CapCut without conversion.

Do I need a separate conversion LUT for log footage in CapCut?+

Not with the camera packs. Each of those bakes the full log-to-Rec.709 conversion into the same .cube as the look, so it is one effect in CapCut rather than a technical LUT with a creative LUT stacked on top.

Can I change the LUT strength in CapCut?+

CapCut desktop does have an Intensity slider, so you can ease a look back. What it cannot do is ease the look without also easing the log conversion underneath it — that is a limitation of every editor-side mix, not of CapCut. Picking your strength before download sidesteps it.

Are there free LUTs I can try in CapCut first?+

Yes — 7 of them, one conversion grade for every camera we support, at https://ireelz.com/luts/free. Full-strength .cube files, no watermark.
